Wombat Day

For no particular reason, October 22 is Wombat Day in Australia. Like so many Australian animals, wombats are marsupials. They are also burrowers and have the distinction of having a rear-facing pouch that doesn’t fill with soil as they dig.

There seems to be a lot of discussion as to the name of  group of wombats.  My personal favorite is a wisdom, however, it is also variously known as a colony or a mob.

They also have cube shaped scat.

Happy Wombat Day.
