January 28 is Data Privacy Day in commemoration of the day in 1981 when the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection was signed by the European Council. (Read about it here.)
Data Privacy Day (Data Protection Day in Europe) promotes the development of technology that protects personal identities, encourages compliance with privacy laws, and creates dialogues among stakeholders interested in advancing data protection and privacy.
The organizations that participate in the event include the Anti-Phishing Working Group, Cyber Data-Risk Managers, EDUCAUSE, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Bureau of Investigation, the UK Information Commissioner, and the Data Security Council of India.
