World Wetlands Day

One of the reasons I do 365 Holidays a Year is to make people aware of opportunities afforded by international observances. As an educator, I’m particularly interested in learning activities and opportunities for students. World Wetland Day, February 2, fits the bill.

February 2 was the date in 1971 that the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, one of the oldest modern environmental treaties, was adopted in Ramsar, Iran.

Ramsar, Danone, Canon, and Evian Water sponsor the annual Wetlands Youth Photo Contest for ages 18-25. The winner receives Canon digital camera and a trip to one of the International Ramsar Sites.

The 2019 Theme is Wetlands and Climate Change

This is the 2019 official poster downloaded from the Ramsar site where you can also find fact sheets, cards, posters, and coloring pages about wetlands.
