Emergency Rescuer’s Day in Russia

December 27 is Emergency Rescuer’s Day in Russia (Russian: День спасателя.) It is a professional holiday of Russian emergency service workers, commemorating the day in 1990 when the Russian Emergency Rescue Corps was established. The holiday was established by Presidential Decree No. 1306 of Boris Yelstin.

It is estimated that the Russian emergency services save over 100,000 lives annually. According to official estimates, in 2013 the number of those who died in emergency situations in Russia decreased by 40%.

Traditionally, the majority of Russian emergency rescuers stay on duty on this day.
