On January 22, 1984 Apple introduced the Macintosh computer in its iconic commercial shown for the first and only time during the Super Bowl XVIII.
Like many great works of art, it was at first hated. The ad almost didn’t run because Apple’s board of directors hated it, according to Walter Isaacson’s 2011 biography “Steve Jobs.”
“Most of [Apple’s directors] thought it was the worst commercial they had ever seen,” John Sculley, who was Apple’s CEO at the time, said, according to Isaacson.
