Infinity Day

Ahh. The great eight. It will be hard to condense all that I have learned about this number into the succinct posts I pride myself on. Since ∞ is the mathematical symbol for infinity, August 8 was destined for greatness.

Infinity Day was created in 1987 by Jean-Pierre Ady Fenyo, poet, journalist, author and The Original New York City Free Advice Man and popularized by Bill Petro, fellow holiday enthusiast.
August 8 is a national holiday in Tanzania. Nane Nane (eight, eight) Day, it is Farmer’s Day with a well-attended Agricultural Exhibition in which universities and other research institutes showcase technologies, ideas, discoveries and alternative solutions for the agricultural sector.

The number eight is particularly important in Asia. China, where I live, requested and received permission to begin the XXIX Olympiad on August 8, 2008 at 8:08 p.m.

If you can find any correlation, it is also the day of the Great Train Robbery in 1963 and the date in 1973 that Kim Dae-jung, South Korean diplomat, was kidnapped.  It is also the birthday of Bob Smith, founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.
