Tolkien Birthday Toast

January 3 is the birthday of John Roland Reuel Tolkien (1892.) The Tolkien Society invites you to collectively toast his birthday at 9 pm local time. The toast is simply:

The Professor!

Stand, raise a glass of your choice of drink (not necessarily alcoholic), and say the words “The Professor” before taking a sip (or swig, if that’s more appropriate for your drink). Sit and enjoy the rest of your drink.

You can report where and what you drink on the Tolkien Society website, Facebook or Twitter (using #Tolkien Birthday Toast.)

Ah! like gold fall the leaves in the wind, long years numberless as the wings of trees!, the beginning of the Quenya poem Namárië written in Tenwarr and in Latin script
